For the past 20 + years I've participated in the nationally-renouned Seattle Parks Department Buskers In The Parks program, a scheme to improve the general tone of at-risk public spaces by bringing musicians in to play at noon. Apparently it works — 20 years is a lifetime in city programs. For lifetime street monkey me, it's more than a residency, it's durn near a profession. I've always described the service as half scarecrow, half muzak, but it keeps me working, and as a 75-year-old musician that still gigs, I'm well into the 99th percentile. (note: parks performances subject to cancellation due to inclement weather.)
